David Bowie NFT by artist FEWOCiOUS sells for $127,000

One of the NFTs from an exclusive NFT collection from The David Bowie Estate has sold for 96.5 ETH, approximately $127k.

The estate of the British pop legend announced a collaboration with NFT marketplace Opensea to sell 15 NFTs to commemorate the life of David Bowie. The collection features works from 9 digital artists.

The Bowie estate’s move into the NFT space has been marked with controversy as some fans were not impressed with the move. Fans expressed dismay at the idea of bowie on the blockchain.

100% of the proceeds from all of the NFT collection sales are to be donated to CARE, a non-profit organization that fights hunger and poverty around the world.

Commemorating celebrity icons on the blockchain

As major auction houses like Christie’s continue to develop their NFT collections, celebrities and collectors are seeing the value of unique collections with our past icons.

NFTs have injected a new lease of life into the memorabilia market. Sports fans swap NFT trading cards and NFT collectors soak up the new digital artworks of our most iconic past celebrities such as Elvis and Bowie.

Elvis has entered The Sandbox metaverse and Elvis fans have created an Elvis DAO to care for the rock star’s digital memorabilia. The Elvis On-Chain NFT project has launched a collection of 1,935 one-of-a-kind Elvis Genesis Key NFTs. Each NFT is a 1-of-1, created based on a 1968 special that marked Elvis’ stage comeback.

Furthermore, Meta Hollywood announced a partnership with SOMA finance earlier this year to offer exclusive access to movie memorabilia.

Nostalgia is as powerful as scarcity when the thrill of buying a piece of history is put in the hands of potential collectors. The re-awakening of iconic moments, like the David Bowie NFT, gives a new generation an opportunity to interact with a revered culture. With a focus on important cultural movements, the original idea behind the famous Crypto Punks as a potential movement paying homage to a celebrated era comes into focus.

There is a natural yearning to connect with those times that were catalysts of great change and revolutionary moments. The 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s can be brought back to life with a digital NFT renaissance.
