Binance to distribute $5M worth BNB tokens to Turkish users

Binance, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has announced it will give away $100 worth of BNB tokens to users affected by the recent earthquake in Turkey.

The users will be identified based on proof-of-address in 10 cities most impacted by the disaster. Although the method of identification has limitations, Binance considers it the best available option. The total donation is estimated to be around $5 million.

Crypto exchange Binance confirmed on Twitter and in an official blog that said it will airdrop $100 of its native BNB token to all its users identified to be in the regions most affected by the Turkish earthquake tragedy.

“The recent earthquakes in Turkey have had a devastating impact on so many people and communities. We hope that our efforts will bring some relief to those affected. We are also calling on our industry peers to once again come together to offer support in these times of crisis,” said Binance founder and CEO CZ.

The scale of the destruction from the earthquake is devastating for local communities in both Turkey and Syria. The search remains ongoing as the death toll is nearing 10,000 as search ad rescue teams across the world arrive in Turkey to help the emergency services. The magnitude 7.8 earthquake has toppled over 5,775 buildings, confirmed The Guardian newspaper.

Binance Charity has also opened a public donation address for those wishing to contribute to the relief effort, which can be done in various cryptocurrencies such as BTC, ETH, BNB, BUSD, and XRP. The use of cryptocurrencies in disaster relief is becoming increasingly popular due to their fast, low-cost, and transparent nature.
